Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

As pioneered by Author Dr Russ Harris in his book “The Happiness Trap”, acceptance and commitment therapy aims to emphasise principles that work towards a rich and meaningful life. Its principles are centralised on the basis of truly accepting what is out of a person’s individual control, while committing to act on areas of a person’s life which may be enriched or made more meaningful.

In Russ’ second book, “The Reality Slap”, he goes on to emphasise the importance of presence, priority and privilege and explains the notion that the bigger the gap between where the person is and where they want to be, the bigger the ‘slap’ they will ultimately experience, making it more difficult to cope and move on.
