Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

Pioneered by psychologist Marsha Linehan in the 1980’s, dialectical behavioural therapy is specific form of cognitive behavioural therapy which aims to help an individual tolerate intense emotional feelings, coping in more healthy ways to avoid otherwise self-harming behaviours. This form of therapy focuses on emotional regulation and distress tolerance, assisting individuals to identify their weaknesses and arrest unhealthy coping mechanisms early.
